Explore answers to some of the most common inquiries about my counseling services and process.

What happens during the initial appointment?

I begin by learning what you want to work on and what might be holding you back. Together, we look at the patterns and beliefs that affect your thoughts, actions, and motivation.

At the end of the session, I share my impressions and outline a simple plan, including next steps and an estimate of how long therapy may take.

Do you accept insurance?

I am out-of-network with health insurance. You can find session fees here along with questions to ask your insurance company about potential reimbursement.

I provide a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. Most insurance plans cover out-of-network services and provide instructions for submitting claims. I also provide resources to assist with this process if needed. Click here to learn more about what you should ask your insurance company prior to coming in for your Initial Appointment.

Can I talk on the phone/video prior to our first appointment?

Yes. I offer a free consultation prior to our first meeting. It gives us both an opportunity to see if we may be a good fit for one another – I want to hear about why you are starting therapy and what you hope to gain from it and you are likely interested in hearing about my experience with your issues and goals, my approach to these issues and what a typical session may look like. But, feel free to ask me anything.

Do I need to be in Illinois or New York during sessions?

Yes. I am licensed in Illinois and New York, so I can only meet with clients who are physically located in one of those states at the time of the session.

What do I need for a video session?

A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera, microphone, and a steady internet connection, plus a private space where you can talk. You will receive a secure video link before your session.

Is online therapy confidential?

Yes. Sessions are held over secure video, and what you share is kept confidential within the limits of the law. I go over those limits with you at the start of therapy.

Who do you work with?

I work with individuals, couples, and families dealing with anxiety, stress, life transitions, relationship conflict, and feeling stuck.

Why would I work with a therapist that is not in-network with my insurance?

Being out network, the focus of therapy stays where it belongs - on you, your growth, and making change. When cost isn’t the limiting factor, you’re free to choose a therapist based on true fit and expertise, allowing the work to go deeper without outside constraints shaping the process.

Working with an out-of-network therapist gives you greater privacy, flexibility, and freedom in your care. Insurance companies require a diagnosis, detailed documentation, and at times, can limit the number of sessions and length of sessions.

Do you meet with clients for video therapy?

Yes, I meet with clients exclusively through secure video. Once your appointment is scheduled, you’ll receive a dedicated link that only you can access.

Is video therapy as effective as face to face?

Video therapy has been used since the early 1990s and recent research shows it is just as effective as in-person therapy. It became more widely adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic, offering the same benefits with added convenience and flexibility.

How long are sessions, and what is your cancellation policy?

Sessions are typically 55 minutes and scheduled once per week, particularly at the beginning of treatment. Depending on individual needs and preferences, some clients choose to meet twice weekly or schedule extended 85-minute sessions.

To avoid a cancellation fee, please provide at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. For additional information, please reference Insurance and Fees.
